Pirate’s Cove Beach in Newport Beach, CA: What to Expect

Pirate’s Cove is a small section of beach in the Corona del Mar section of Newport Beach. It’s located right below Lookout Point, a popular viewpoint overlooking the Newport harbor.

Pirate’s Cove is a popular beach because of the small sea caves and the mild water.

Jetties bordering the harbor limit wave movement impact, so it’s the perfect beach for children.

  • Pirate’s Cove is not wheelchair accessible. Exercise caution when climbing the rocks to get to the staircase.

How to Get to Pirate’s Cove

Go down the staircase until you hit this sidewalk. On the right you’ll see a picnic section—go behind that and climb up the rocks.

Turn right here

Go down these steps into the cove

Under this cliff is a sea cave! The back section of the cave is fenced off, but the fence is corroding.

There are beautiful views of West Jetty View Park/The Wedge from Pirate’s Cove Beach. Both of these sites are located across the harbor on the Balboa Peninsula.

Just a short walk down Ocean Blvd, you’ll find another secluded beach called China Cove.
