Huntington State Beach: What to Expect

Huntington State Beach is known as one of the best beaches in Orange County for bonfires.

Since this beach is managed by California State Parks, there is a $15 fee to park there (click here for current rates).

On high-demand holidays like July 4 and Memorial Day, you can find cars lining up for bonfire pit spots before 6am. Arriving early increases your chances of securing a spot.

If you’re curious about other options, there’s also Huntington City Beach just north, by the Huntington Beach pier and Main Street.

How many bonfire pits are there?

There are approximately 200 bonfire pits (aka fire rings) available at Huntington State Beach.

Are dogs allowed at Huntington State Beach?

Dogs are allowed in the parking lot and on the trails, but they’re not permitted on the sand. Note that Huntington Dog Beach is just a few miles away.

It’s my first time visiting Orange County. Should I visit Huntington State Beach?

To be closer to the downtown area, we’d recommend Huntington City Beach instead. You can walk around Main Street (aka Downtown Huntington Beach) and the Pacific City outdoor shopping mall.
