Dana Point Arches: An Unfinished Dream

The Dana Point Arches are an iconic concrete structure nestled along a picturesque cliffside in Dana Point, CA. Known for their unique unfinished quality and historical significance, the Arches provide a popular backdrop for photography.

How did The Arches come to be?

The Dana Point Inn was once a grand hotel envisioned by Sidney H. Woodruff in the 1920s as part of his plan to develop Dana Point into a luxurious resort destination. Although the hotel was never completed because of the Great Depression, the arches, built in 1928, remain as a testament to Woodruff's ambitious vision.

The walk down to the arches provides some of the best views of the marina.

In an interesting twist, the Dana Point Harbor down below is now undergoing renovations—the goal is to turn it into 120,000 square feet of upscale restaurants and retail space. So, perhaps Woodruff’s dream will become realized after all!

How to Access the Arches

The arches are located along the Dana Point Bluff Top Trail.

Simply navigate to Amber Lantern Street, where you can find free street parking. Walk all the way down the street and when you reach the end, take the staircase down to the trail.

As you follow the trail, you’ll see this bronze statue, called The Hide Drogher.

The walk to the arches is relatively short, so you don’t need to dedicate more than an hour to this attraction. Consider going down to the beach or grabbing a bite to eat in the Lantern District.
