There are several beaches in Orange County, but only three that we would consider dog beaches. Here is a complete list:

1. Huntington Dog Beach

This is the only off-leash dog beach in Orange County. It stretches 1.5 miles between Seapoint Street and 21st Street, just a few blocks North of the Huntington Beach pier. There are two lots with paid parking along PCH.

At Huntington dog beach, you’ll find all kinds of dog breeds chasing after balls in the water, relaxing under an umbrella, or accompanying their owners on a nice stroll along the shore.

2. Laguna Beach

Almost all of the beaches in Laguna Beach allow dogs on-leash. The exceptions are Crystal Cove State Park, Thousand Steps Beach, and Totuava Beach.

Restriction: Dogs are not allowed on the beach from 9 am-6 pm from June 15th through September 10th.

3. Newport Beach

Newport Beach allows dogs on most of their beaches in the early mornings and evenings, as long as they are on-leash.

Restriction: Dogs are not allowed on the beach from 10 am-4:30 pm year-round.

Tips for a safe, enjoyable visit to the dog beach

  • Bring plenty of water—even on cooler days—so your pet can stay hydrated. (Consider a portable water dispenser!)

  • Make sure your dog is vaccinated against rabies, parvovirus, etc.

  • Do not bring an aggressive dog to the dog beach.

  • Monitor your dog’s saltwater intake if they’re swimming. Some dogs can unintentionally consume potentially harmful amounts of saltwater when they’re having lots of fun.

  • Make sure you are within a few feet of your dog at all times.

  • Follow all of the rules posted at the dog beach entrances. While some might seem restrictive, they are designed with you and your dog’s safety and enjoyment in mind.
