Victoria Beach Pirate Tower: What to Expect (2024)

The Victoria Beach pirate tower is a Laguna Beach landmark that has been around since 1926. The owner of the home on the cliff constructed the tower for easy access to Victoria Beach.

It’s a short walk to get here. In fact, finding parking and accessing the beach will probably take you more time than the walk from the beach entrance to the tower.

Know Before You Go

  • The staircase leading down to the beach is not wheelchair accessible.

  • The pirate tower is not accessible during high tide. Check surf conditions before you decide to make the trek.

  • The best photography conditions will be during sunset hours.

  • Victoria Beach is a Marine Protected Area. Abide by all rules on posted signs.

How to Get to the Pirate Tower

First, you’ll want to park along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) near a street called Sunset Terrace. Be careful—PCH is very busy and not pedestrian friendly.

Then, walk in the neighborhood down Victoria Drive until you find the hidden staircase wedged between two homes.

Walk down the staircase.

This is the view of Victoria Beach at the bottom of the staircase.

Turn right and you’ll see the pirate tower about 50 yards away.

Right before the tower, you’ll see this circular concrete structure that was basically a pool during high tide.

And voila! It’s easy to access the base of the tower when it’s low tide.
